Complementary Treatment

Acupuncture is often accompanied by moxibustion and cupping. Both moxibustion and cupping have important roles in traditional Chinese medical system. They have been used in China for thousands of years. Texts of the Mawangdui (“King of Ma’s Mound”), which is an archaeological site located in China and dates from the 2nd century BCE, mention the use of moxibustion. Archaeologists have found evidence in China of cupping dating back to 1,000 BCE. Oriental medicine practitioners believe that cupping and moxibustion are powerful techniques which supplement acupuncture to relieve pain and restore health.
